About this role

Assistant or untenured Associate Professor in Real Estate

Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Cornell University

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for two positions as a tenure track assistant professor or untenured associate professor position in our real estate area, with a school affiliation in the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. We expect that these positions will also hold fractional affiliations (now or in the future) with the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2027. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY.

Responsibilities of the position include 1) research in the candidate's area(s) of expertise, 2) teaching introductory and advanced courses at the undergraduate, Professional Masters, MBA, and/or Ph.D. levels, 3) supervision of doctoral candidates, and 4) service to the Area, School, and College.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in real estate, finance, economics, or related field by the start date of the appointment. Preferred candidates will demonstrate significant promise in research, teaching, and service, and will complement and extend the strengths of the faculty of both the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate. While top candidates will have a broad research record in areas related to real estate finance and urban economics, we encourage applications from all candidates with a specific focus in commercial real estate, household finance, asset management, hospitality real estate, or related fields.

A strong commitment to excellent teaching in real estate is required. It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan); and one Department: the joint Rubacha Department of Real Estate (Rubacha).

The Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration is the top-ranked management program worldwide, with undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs. The Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan) has approximately 800 undergraduates and 60 graduate students. Founded in 1922, Nolan is an AACSB accredited business school, with a resident faculty of 65 and over 10,000 alumni worldwide. Important resources available to faculty include extraordinary access to industry leaders, excellent research funding, the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), and the cultural and intellectual resources of the Cornell University community.

The Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate is jointly overseen by the S.C. Johnson College of Business (SCJCB) and the College of Architecture, Art and Planning (AAP). The department manages a two-year professional master's program in real estate, the Baker M.P.S., with roughly 100 students in residence. A distinguishing feature of the program is its comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to real estate education, reflecting the different types of skills required for many career paths in real estate. This includes expertise in urban planning, architecture, law, engineering, finance, and economics. A further distinguishing feature of the program is its blending of academic in-class instruction along with input from industry professionals and out-of-class experience.
